....Saint Joseph de Bon Espoir, Espaly..Saint Joseph of "Good Hope"....
....Dans la deuxième moitié du XVIIe siècle, grâce à une suite d’événements et l’action d’un petit nombre, le cœur des habitants d’Espaly a retrouvé son ardeur et sa ferveur enfouies sous les cendres, de sorte qu’aujourd’hui Espaly est le plus important sanctuaire de France dédié à saint Joseph.
Quelque chose s’est produit et cela a changé le cours de l’histoire, voici les détails :
Au début du XVIIe siècle, le village d’Espaly fut ravagé par de nombreuses guerres et le vieux château du rocher d’Espaly détruit de fond en comble mais…
En 1855, deux femmes du village qui se dévouaient auprès des villageois dans le besoin et qui cherchaient par-dessus tout à rallumer l’espoir des habitants du village ont un jour reçu la réponse à leurs supplications.
Qu’ont-elles découvert? Ou qu’ont-elles vu? Ou qui ont-elles rencontré?
Ces deux dames trouvèrent, au hasard dans les décombres aux alentours du rocher et près d’une tour qui n’avait pas été complètement détruite, une image de saint Joseph. Elles eurent la conviction qu’il s’agissait là d’un signe du ciel. Elles fixèrent l’image au creux du rocher d’Espaly parmi les ruines de l’ancien château et à partir de ce moment, elles prirent l’habitude de venir prier à cet endroit tous les jours.
Mais ce n’est pas tout…
Bientôt un nombre grandissant de personnes s’y rendaient et se mirent à prier saint Joseph elles aussi. Sur les lieux, quelques pièces de tissus trouvées ici et là décoraient l’image, sans plus. Mais saint Joseph inspira bientôt une autre personne très fortunée de venir prêter main forte: M. l’abbé Fontanille, un homme généreux de sa personne et de sa fortune. En voyant cette ferveur à l’égard de Joseph et ayant lui-même une affection spéciale pour lui, il mit toute son énergie à construire au fil du temps une basilique. Elle attire maintenant les gens du monde entier, qui viennent implorer Joseph sous le vocable de Joseph de Bon Espoir.
Et pourquoi Joseph de Bon Espoir? Voici les raisons exprimées par M. Fontanille.
«Saluons avec amour et reconnaissance l’auguste gardien de Jésus sous le titre de BON ESPOIR. Par saint Joseph bon espoir à la terre! Elle est la possession de Jésus-Christ, qui l’a conquise au prix de son sang, et qui l’a reçue en héritage du Père Eternel. Or Saint Joseph a été établi le gouverneur de toute la possession du Christ. Cette possession, il la gardera. BON ESPOIR à la terre!»
La restauration de ces lieux a eu un impact majeur à Espaly. Joseph de Bon Espoir peut intervenir et redonner espoir au monde, déchiré par toutes sortes de tensions, qu’elles soient politiques, sociales ou religieuses. C’est donc ici et maintenant que nous sommes invités à faire de même et confier à saint Joseph le dénouement favorable de toute crise politique ou autre pouvant avoir un impact historique non seulement dans le monde mais aussi sur chacun de nous et nos familles.

At the beginning of the XVII century, Espaly, a small town of the region of Auvergne, in France, was devastated by numerous wars. The old castle was left in ruins and most of the people of Espaly had lost hope except for two brave women.
Something happened and it changed the course of history. Here are the details:
In 1855, these two courageous women who had devoted time and energy to help villagers in distress and who tried valiantly to rekindle hope in the hearts of the villagers finally received an answer to their prayers.
What did they discover? Who did they see? Who did they meet?
Stuck in the ruins of the old castle, wedged in a rock close to a tower that had not been completely destroyed, they found an image of Saint Joseph. The two women were convinced that this was a sign from heaven so they placed the image in the hollow of the rock, in the middle of the ruins of the old castle. Every day, they would return to the same place to pray to St Joseph.
But that is not all…
Soon afterwards, many people gathered to pray to St Joseph around the image discretely adorned with a few pieces of fabric. In response, St Joseph promptly inspired M. Fontanille, a wealthy cleric who had a personal devotion to the saint, to share his time and fortune with the people of Espaly. When he saw the intense fervor towards St Joseph that had spread in the village, he decided to build a cathedral. The village of Espaly now welcomes people from all over the world who come to pray to Joseph of “Good Hope” (Joseph de Bon Espoir).
Why St Joseph of “Good Hope”? M. Fontanille explains:
“Let us greet with love and gratefulness the majestic guardian of Jesus with the title “Good Hope.” By the intercession of St Joseph, “Good Hope” for this earth. It is the possession of Jesus Christ, who paid the price of his blood and sacrifice, and who received it from the hands of his Heavenly Father. Saint Joseph was established governor of all of Christ’s possessions and he will guard this possession. “Good Hope” to this earth!”
The restoration of the site had a profound effect on the people of Espaly. It shows that Joseph of “Good Hope” can intervene and rekindle hope in our world torn apart by tensions of all kinds: political, social or religious. Here and now, we are invited to do the same. Let us entrust Joseph to resolve all political crises, all events that can impact history, not only in the world but in our personal lives and in the lives of our families.
