La question du gouvernement est délicate. Certaines formules sont meilleures que d’autres, sans doute, mais n’empêchent pas les écarts possibles de ceux et celles qui l’exercent. Mais au delà des discours politiques, ce qui meut l’histoire, ce qui sous-tend les décisions, ce sont les options fondamentales.
C’est le créneau de Joseph : c’est à ce niveau qu’il agit. Il est lui-même au cœur d’évènements majeurs, l’incarnation et la rédemption. Sa parfaite fidélité à l’alliance divine en fait le gardien incontournable de la réalisation des promesses faites à David. Il sait que la fidélité de Dieu se maintient à travers les fragiles dispositions du cœur humain. Il connait le poids immense qui pèse sur les gouvernants et les tractions dont ils sont l’objet.
Son ancêtre David, élu de Dieu et héros d’Israël, accomplit maints exploits, dont sa fameuse victoire contre Goliath. Mais il abuse de son autorité. Il manœuvre pour faire mourir le mari de Bethsabée afin de l’épouser. Confronté par le prophète Nathan, David se repend, prie et confesse sa faute. Le premier fils qu’il a eu avec Bethsabée meurt mais le repentir de David lui obtient la miséricorde de Dieu : Salomon, le second fils qu’il aura avec Bethsabée, règnera avec une sagesse devenue légendaire.

The issue of government is a delicate matter. Some forms are better than others, no doubt, but they do not prevent potential misdeeds from those who exercise it. But beyond the political speeches, what drives history, what underlies the decisions, are the fundamental options.
This is Joseph's specialty: he works at this level. He is himself at the heart of major events: the incarnation and the redemption. His perfect faithfulness to God's covenant makes him the key guardian for the fulfillment of the promises made to David. He knows that God's faithfulness is kept through the fragile dispositions of the human heart. He knows the great pressure that weighs on those who govern and the tractions put to them.
His ancestor David, God's chosen and hero of Israel, accomplished several feats, among which his famous victory against Goliath. But he misused his power. He misled Bathsheba's husband in order to kill him in order to marry her. Confronted by the prophet Nathan, David repents, prays and confess his fault. The first son he had with Bathsheba died, but David's repentance brought him God's mercy: Solomon, his second son with Bathsheba, will reign with a legendary wisdom.

Salomon bien conscient de sa fragilité, demandant à Dieu la sagesse de bien gouverner son peuple, plutôt que tout autre avantage. «Je suis un tout jeune homme, je ne sais pas agir en chef. Donne à ton serviteur un cœur plein de jugement.» (1 Rois 3)

Solomon quite aware of his fragility, asking God to give him the wisdom to help him govern his people well, rather than any other advantage. "I am a young man, I do not know how to govern. Give your servant a heart full of judgement." (1 Kings 3)

Comme son ancêtre David devant Goliath, Joseph peut vaincre tout ce qui fait obstacle au bien pour l’humanité. Il prête main forte à tous ceux et celles qui ont à cœur d’agir dans le sens du règne de Dieu. Comme Salomon, il peut obtenir de Dieu sagesse et discernement pour les gouvernants, à quelque niveau que ce soit.

Like his ancestor David in front of Goliath, Joseph can overcome everything that hinders the good of humanity. He lends a helping hand to all those who heartedly want to spread the Kingdom of God. Like Solomon, he can obtain from God wisdom and discernment for leaders at any level.
